Art is such a personal thing. Whether you like landscapes or modern and Abstract Art. I could gaze for hours at some of the famous landscapes which have been painted over the years. I own several by unfamous artists, but every time I study them, some extra little detail presents itself to me. Paintings can take you back in time as if you could turn back the clock.

Alot of people don't like Thomas Kinkade, but his paintings instill a warm cosy feeling and I often find myself wondering if little thatch cottages that he paints could possibly exist, or I imagine being cut off by thick snow sitting in front of a roaring log fire, as the darkness draws in.
Whilst not a huge fan of abstract art, I can see the attraction. Each painting means something totally different to the viewer and will brighten up any modern home.
Hundreds of years ago, paintings were the modern equivalent of a photograph, indeed Henry the Eighth commissioned portraits of potential suitors who lived abroad, so he could make an informed decision about their beauty. Is that our modern equivalent of a dating site? Sadly Henry relied on the skill of the artist he employed and whether he painted an accurate or took a favourable view of the subject. Old portraits give us the only real pictorial evidence of what life was like and the clothes and styles that were worn. These portraits and paintings are the reason I love to visit historical castles and houses. Sadly I can't afford the real thing, but there are some excellent reproductions available.
Modern abstract
I am also a great fan of oriental paintings, delicate lotus flowers or storks and the magical and mystical lettering. They hint at a calm, cultured way of life, something that is sadly lacking in modern society.
